How the estimate works
Our domain value estimator looks at three things anyone could check, and prices them with the same formula we use for the domains on our own marketplace.
- The name itself. Length, whether it reads as real words, how many syllables, and whether it is easy to say.
- Who else wants the name. Which other extensions of the same name are registered — .net, .org, .io and hundreds more — and how many different owners hold them. When many separate people have registered the same word, that is real demand.
- How long it has been registered. Older registrations are worth more.
Why we give a minimum, not a guess
Every number this tool shows is a floor: what the domain is worth at least. Everything we leave out can only push the value up. We don't yet check whether businesses run live websites on the other extensions, and that is often where the most valuable names show their worth.
We tested this against 100,000 domains we had fully appraised. The minimum never came out higher than the full appraisal. For most names it matched exactly; for names with active businesses on other extensions, the full value was higher.
We also don't claim comparable sales. We don't have a sales database to back that up, and a price quoted against sales you can't see isn't worth much.

Why is it lower than another appraisal tool?
Because we show a minimum, not a midpoint. Our figure only counts what we can verify, so a higher number elsewhere and ours can both be right.
Why do some extensions lower the value?
Buyers pay less for most country and newer extensions than for .com, so we apply the same adjustment we use when pricing our own inventory. The breakdown shows it as its own line.
